Antognolla Resort and Residences development is brought another step closer to reality

14 April 2021, Perugia – Antognolla Resort and Residences, the unique hospitality and golf project located in the undiscovered green heart of Italy, is delighted to be yet another step closer to the great opening of Six Senses Antognolla Resort and Residences in 2023. Today marks the beginning of a partnership with Sacaim, a general contractor and subsidiary of Rizzani de Eccher that specialises in conservative restoration. The start of the construction will make Antognolla Resort and Residences one of the largest employers in the region and will support local industry since the construction materials and manpower will be sourced mostly from the area. This development represents an important milestone, bringing the resort one step closer to reality.

Antognolla Resort and Residences marked the beginning of construction works by presenting the first mock-up room. The resort promises to offer guests an exclusive country getaway in the green heart of Italy, which combines the heritage of Umbria with the comfort and convenience of modern living. The mock-up room gives a preview of what guests can expect from the future resort, offering a unique home-from-home retreat. Locally-sourced materials have been carefully selected to preserve and enhance the retained building fabric, creating a unique ambience with comfortable yet elegant interiors. The design carefully integrates cutting-edge technology, so guests will have uncompromised comfort while enjoying the unique character of a building constructed over three centuries ago. The external views are breathtaking and the beauty of the location inspires the exquisite interior design. Some photo and video materials can be downloaded via link.

Working together with Sacaim, which has worked on some of the most prestigious historical buildings in Italy, and the resort operator Six Senses, we aim to carry out all construction works in the most responsible way with a careful approach to sustainability, utilising waste and preserving the environment surrounding the castle and estate.”

Business Development Director of Rizzani de Eccher and Sacaim Enrico Barbiero said: “We are very honored to be part of this prestigious project supporting Antognolla and Six Senses, and we will do our best to put in place our widest international experience and our in-depth knowledge of the highest art and best practice in restoring and, at the same time, preserving, such a prestigious Italian historical borough. The construction and refurbishing methodology will reflect and respect the harmony and stillness of these enchanted hills.”

The resort will feature a 12th century castle and estate transformed into a 21st century exclusive international resort featuring a luxury hotel and one of the country’s finest golf courses, as well as a limited number of sumptuous residences. The project will become one of the first of its kind in Italy. Aligning with the Six Senses brand values, the castle, borgo and estate are being reincarnated with a sustainable focus. There will be 71 rooms and 79 branded residences, a diverse wellness and cultural offering, 18-hole golf course, cookery school, organic farm, and much more. Original historic architecture will be preserved as a key element of the development, while new building will reflect the history, style and beauty of this exceptional place.

The project will open a new tourism luxury market segment for Umbria, which will bring new influx to the region, create additional demand for the airport and other infrastructure facilities. The project will attract affluent tourists which will result in an increased secondary spending as contribution to local economy.

The project aims to develop golf tourism in the region and will set Umbria as a go to golf destination, which is of particular relevance in light of Ryder Cup in 2023.  The championship golf course by Robert Trent Jones Jr. is already acknowledged to be among the finest in Italy and last year, the golf course was recognised by the prestigious World Golf Awards as ‘Italy’s Best Golf Course’ at the 2020 awards ceremony.
