Antognolla Golf hosts Gary Player
17 September 2021, Perugia – This week, Antognolla Golf was delighted to host nine-time Major Champion and arguably Golf’s most high profile ambassador, Mr Gary Player to the club.
Mr Player has been on a whistle-stop tour of Italy following the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club. Mr Player’s visit to the course and resort is a testament to the fast development of the golf course and wider resort into one of Italy’s finest venues and a credit to the hard work of the team at Antognolla.
César Burguière, Antognolla’s Director of Golf, commented on Mr Player’s visit: “Gary Player is one of the greatest golfers of all time and it is an honour to meet and host one of the original golfing superstars as well as a Grand Slam winner. We know Mr. Player has a tight schedule so we were delighted to hear he wanted to play our course and experience our vision in person. Mr. Player has designed over 200 courses around the world so welcoming him to Antognolla and hearing his opinion on the club and resort was a great privilege for the team and a credit to their unwavering commitment to excellence and the ongoing investment in the resort.
During his visit, Gary Player commented; “Although it’s been a very short trip to Antognolla Golf, I can say without reservation that the greens are some of the finest you’ll see here in Italy. The views from the course are simply spectacular and when the 12th century castle is restored as a hotel it will be one of the most beautiful places in Europe to stay. It is also a nice coincidence that my visit coincided with the Internationally recognised 'Thank a Greenkeeper Day', as the team here have done an outstanding job with the course.’’
Additionally, Antognolla Golf is delighted to receive interest from such renowned international golfers, particularly ahead of the forthcoming Ryder Cup which will take place in Rome in 2023. Antognolla Golf is very simply one of the most spectacular and challenging golf courses in Italy so it won’t disappoint golfers wishing to tick us off their golfing “bucket list”.
